About ZAC files

ZAC files are specialized compressed backup archives generated primarily by Zander FoundationPlus, a widely used trust management and fiduciary accounting platform. These files are designed to encapsulate entire databases of client ledgers, financial histories, and tax data into a single, manageable package. Because trust management requires strict data retention, these backups are crucial for migrating between legacy and modern systems or for disaster recovery. Internally, .ZAC files often employ standard ZIP compression to reduce their overall footprint.

For users attempting to inspect or migrate data without access to the original Zander FoundationPlus software, the format presents significant limitations. The proprietary extension masks the underlying structure, making the data appear locked. Without an expensive, active software license, you cannot directly import or view the ledgers in standard accounting tools like Excel or QuickBooks.

Because the underlying container is often a standard archive, the most pragmatic conversion path involves renaming or extracting the contents to ZIP or 7Z. This reveals the internal components - typically CSV, XML, or PDF files. However, converting the wrapper does not automatically rebuild the database structure, meaning data relationships may be lost outside of the native software.

This file format is notoriously difficult to process because the proprietary wrapper is closed-source. Often, only the original Zander software can properly interpret the relational data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects the supported underlying ZIP format, viewing or conversion to accessible archive formats may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ZAC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZACS, ZIP, WDK and ZAR files.

The ZAC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZAC converter.
