About XXE files
.XXE files are primarily xXEncoded binary files. They store binary data translated into plain text characters to survive transmission over older email or Usenet systems. Historically, these files were handled by PowerArchiver or similar decoding utilities (read more about xxencoding on Wikipedia). Today, this format is severely outdated and entirely unnecessary for modern systems that handle binary attachments natively. It adds file size overhead and requires specific unarchiving software to extract the original data. More alarmingly, the Xorist ransomware actively uses the .XXE extension - often hiding an internal RAR archive - to drop malicious payloads, making unknown .XXE files highly dangerous. You usually do not convert this file to media formats; you extract it to retrieve the original contents, which might be a ZIP, EXE, or a document. Standard online converters fail because .XXE is either an obsolete text-encoded container or literal malware. Just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to safely identify the format, inspect the internal content, and extract the embedded files when supported, without risking a local malware infection.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XXE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert XXE file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use PowerArchiver or similar software from the "Text-to-Binary Encoded Archive" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to XXE, try PowerArchiver or another comparable tool in the "Text-to-Binary Encoded Archive" category.
The XXE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XXE converter.
