About XTEL files
The .xtel file is a proprietary data file generated by material testing machines using Trapezium X software developed by Shimadzu. It is commonly known as a Texture Analyzer data file. Laboratories and engineering facilities use it to store raw physical metrics like tensile strength, compression, bending, and material fatigue over time.
The main disadvantage of the .xtel format is its highly restricted, proprietary ecosystem. It requires an expensive, specialized software license to open and view the graphs. This makes it incredibly frustrating to share test results with clients, students, or off-site researchers who do not possess the native software. The format is completely unsupported by standard web browsers, mobile devices, or general-purpose office applications.
To analyze or share this data, users must typically convert .xtel files into universally accessible formats like CSV (Comma-Separated Values), XLSX (Excel), or plain TXT. Formal testing reports are generally exported as PDF files. Converting to generic spreadsheet formats strips away the machine's proprietary calibration metadata but preserves the core stress and strain data points required for statistical analysis.
Because .xtel is a closed, hardware-specific format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original Shimadzu software can properly read or export the complex data arrays. However, convert.guru offers a practical workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our deep analysis tools inspect the file to show embedded text or internal content. If our scanners detect underlying unencrypted text or data structures, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible without the original machine.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XTEL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The XTEL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XTEL converter.
