About XSC files

The .xsc extension typically refers to a Transcribe! Project File, created by Seventh String Software. These files are not audio files (like MP3 or WAV); instead, they are small text-based instruction files that save your workspace - including loop points, text annotations, pedal timestamps, and EQ settings. A common frustration is sharing a .xsc file with a friend or client, only for them to report they cannot hear any music. This happens because the file only references the location of the audio file on your local hard drive, but does not contain the actual sound data. To share the audio, you must open the project in Transcribe! and use the 'Export' feature to render a new WAV or MP3 file.

In a software development context, .xsc files are Visual Studio Dataset Internal Info Files. These are auto-generated XML files created by Microsoft Visual Studio when a developer works with a Dataset Designer (XSD). They store layout information, such as the position of tables in the visual editor, and do not contain source code. These files are often safe to delete and should generally be excluded from version control systems like Git.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XSC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SXC, XCS, JPG, PDF, NRA, JDF and LPI files.

The XSC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XSC converter.
