Extract text from XNT files
To convert your XNT file to another format, you need QuarkXPress or other Plugin software.
To convert other file formats to the "Desktop Publishing Extension" file type, you need software like QuarkXPress or a similar tool.
The .xnt file extension is almost exclusively associated with QuarkXPress, the professional desktop publishing software. Technically, an .xnt file is a compiled binary plugin - specifically a Windows executable file (often a renamed DLL) - that adds specific functionality, tools, or third-party integrations to the core QuarkXPress application. Because these are system/application files containing executable code, they cannot be opened like standard documents (e.g., you cannot double-click to view them in Word, nor convert them to PDF or JPG).
Users typically encounter these files when downloading third-party add-ons (like the Oracle Documaker or Xerox DocuShare integration modules) or when troubleshooting a missing plugin error. The "conversion" process here is actually installation: you must manually move the .xnt file into the XTensions folder within your QuarkXPress installation directory and restart the software. If you are a developer or advanced user needing to inspect the code, you can rename the extension to DLL to analyze it with dependency walkers, but for 99% of users, this is a "set it and forget it" system component.
