About XMDX files

The .XMDX file is a secure exam answer file used primarily by ExamSoft Examplify. It acts as a digital vault, storing a student's responses during a locked-down digital exam before they are uploaded to the institution's servers. These files were also previously associated with ExamSoft SofTest, the predecessor to Examplify. The main disadvantage of the .XMDX format is its highly restrictive, proprietary nature. It is designed specifically to prevent tampering and cheating. This means the files are heavily encrypted and locked to the original testing environment. Users cannot simply open them in standard web browsers, text editors, or word processors. You must have an active, authenticated session in Examplify to properly submit them. If an upload fails, you are left with an unreadable file on your local drive. Ideally, students want to convert .XMDX files to PDF or TXT to review their answers after an exam. However, because it is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. The format relies on internal encryption that third-party tools cannot bypass. Despite these strict limitations, the underlying structure of an .XMDX file is a standard ZIP container. Just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format, view its structure, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects unencrypted embedded XML or text data within the container, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XMDX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
