About XLX files
The .xlx file extension is an ambiguous anomaly in the file management world, most commonly representing a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet saved with a typo in the extension (intended as XLSX or XLS). In these cases, the file contains standard spreadsheet data - rows, columns, formulas, and charts - but because the extension is non-standard, Excel and Google Sheets will refuse to open it directly, often throwing "Format not valid" errors.
Alternatively, roughly 26% of these files are legitimate data files generated by Experlogix (formerly Xpertdoc), a document automation platform. These files contain structured data used to generate business documents but are not meant for direct user editing. Less frequently, an .xlx file may be an incomplete download artifact from legacy peer-to-peer managers like XoloX, or a proprietary output from Crystal Reports. Because of this uncertainty, users struggle to access their data.

The XLX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XLX converter.
