About XLTM files
The .XLTM file is an Office Open XML macro-enabled template used by Microsoft Excel. It stores default spreadsheet formatting, formulas, and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros to generate new, standardized XLSM workbooks. You can open these files natively using Microsoft Excel or view the internal structure by renaming the extension to ZIP and extracting it, as modern .XLTM files rely on the ZIP-based Open XML standard.
The primary disadvantage of the .XLTM format is security. Because it contains embedded macros, email clients and corporate firewalls routinely block these files to prevent malware execution. Furthermore, opening these files requires a paid Microsoft Office subscription, and mobile devices or web browsers cannot execute the VBA code, rendering the automation useless on those platforms.
To share template data safely, you must convert the file. For secure data sharing without macros, convert to XLSX. For maximum compatibility or data ingestion across systems, convert to a flat CSV. For archiving or printing, convert to PDF. Note that converting to non-macro formats will strip all VBA automation. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser.

The XLTM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XLTM converter.
