To convert other file formats to the "Laboratory Analysis Data File" file type, you need software like Malvern Mastersizer or a similar tool.

About XLD files

The .XLD file is primarily used as a particle analysis data export generated by lab equipment software, such as Sympatec analysis software or the Malvern Mastersizer 3000. These files store particle size distribution data using UTF-16 (LE) text formatting. Secondary uses include XML-based Ladder Diagram exchange files for Schneider Electric PLCs (like Unity Pro), and legacy Excel Dialog Sheets or databases for Microsoft Excel.

Because these files originate from highly specialized industrial or laboratory hardware, they are often locked into proprietary ecosystems. You cannot natively view a Sympatec or Malvern analysis without a costly software license or the original lab computer. The lack of standard viewer support makes data sharing across teams extremely frustrating.

If the internal structure is text-based (UTF-16 or XML), the best conversion targets are CSV, TXT, or XML. This allows you to import the raw numerical data into Microsoft Excel or Python for independent analysis. Note that complex visual charts and proprietary lab formatting will be lost during extraction.

Because of their specialized nature, standard online converters fail to process .XLD files. Often, only the original hardware software can properly read or export the structured data. However, just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format. Our system can inspect the file, extract raw UTF-16 text or XML code, and show internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XLD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MMES, TST and KDT files.

The XLD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XLD converter.
