About XCL files
The .xcl extension is primarily associated with the Degrees of Lewdity game as a mod package. These files are typically ZIP archives containing game assets, scripts, and HTML data masked by a custom extension to manage game modifications. Users often need to convert or rename these to ZIP to inspect, edit, or manually install mod content that isn't loading correctly. A secondary but common use is within PDF-XChange Editor as a localization file. In this context, the file contains XML text strings used to translate the software's interface into different languages. Users convert these to XML or TXT to correct translation errors or create custom language packs. Less frequently, .xcl may appear as a legacy Microsoft Excel 97-2003 artifact (Compound File Binary) or a Xilinx report log, often requiring older software versions to open properly.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XCL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The XCL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XCL converter.
