Extract text from Trimble data or split archives (X01)

To convert other file formats to the "Survey Data File" file type, you need software like Trimble Business Center or a similar tool.
An .X01 file is primarily a Trimble Survey Data file used in the geospatial industry. It contains raw measurement data collected by Trimble GPS devices and total stations. Less frequently, it acts as a split volume part for a WinRAR archive, a forensic data extraction file from MSAB XRY, or an XRD scan dataset from Bede Control2.
The main disadvantage of .X01 survey files is their strictly proprietary nature. The data is heavily encoded, meaning you cannot open it natively in a web browser, standard text editor, or spreadsheet. Viewing these files usually requires an expensive, heavy desktop software installation like Trimble Business Center. For split RAR archives, the limitation is structural: you cannot extract an .X01 file independently. You must have the entire sequence of split volumes (e.g., .RAR, .R00, .X00, .X01) stored in the exact same directory.
To make this data accessible, conversion is essential. For data analysis and spreadsheets, convert survey .X01 files to CSV or TXT. For importing into CAD or GIS mapping platforms, converting to DXF or SHP is the best choice. If your file is part of a split archive, you need to merge the parts and extract them to standard formats like ZIP.
