The .WZ file is primarily a proprietary game data package created by Wizet (now Nexon) for the MMORPG MapleStory. Another notable use is for the open-source real-time strategy game Warzone 2100, where it serves as a standard ZIP archive containing game mods and data. A minor use case includes workout data backups for the AllMyWorkouts app, which uses a standard GZ (GZIP) compression.
To interact with MapleStory .WZ files outside the game, players typically rely on third-party community tools like HaRepacker or WzRepacker. The official game client does not provide any native asset browsing capabilities. Warzone 2100 files, however, can be easily opened with any standard archive tool like 7-Zip.
