About WYG files
The .WYG file is a proprietary 3D lighting design and previsualization document. Lighting designers use it in CAST Software WYSIWYG to build virtual stages, patch DMX fixtures, and render live show lighting before physically rigging the equipment. You usually need to convert this file when collaborating with set designers, architects, or venue managers who do not own a WYSIWYG license. The .WYG format has major disadvantages for sharing. It is heavily locked down and strictly proprietary. Opening it requires an expensive software subscription and often a physical USB security dongle. Standard web browsers and image viewers cannot preview it. The best target formats are DWG or DXF for sharing the 3D stage and truss geometry with AutoCAD users. You can also export PDF files for printed 2D lighting plots, and CSV for fixture patch lists. Keep in mind that converting to generic CAD formats will lose the live DMX previsualization capabilities, photometric data, and specific fixture profiles. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert with third-party tools. It is a closed database. Often, only the original CAST Software application can properly read the lighting attributes or export the structural data. Standard online converters fail to process it. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format, partial viewing or conversion may still be possible.
