The .WVS file extension primarily serves as the project container for KUKA WorkVisual, the configuration environment for KUKA industrial robots. These files bundle the complete robot cell definition, including hardware topology, field bus mapping, and KRL (KUKA Robot Language) source code. Users often struggle with these files because they are proprietary binaries tightly coupled to specific software versions; a project saved in a newer version of WorkVisual often refuses to open in an older one. Furthermore, accessing the internal logic requires a heavy, licensed software installation, making it impossible for project managers or clients to view the data without the engineering suite. To collaborate or archive, users should extract the internal .SRC and .DAT files to TXT or XML for version control, or convert the configuration summary to PDF for documentation.

The main limitation is that they are not human-readable reports; they are raw session data.
