About WVL files

A .WVL file typically contains proprietary Wavelet Compressed Video footage generated by closed-circuit digital video recorder (DVR) systems used for security and surveillance. In older contexts, it may also function as a Corel Wavelet Compressed Bitmap, an early raster image format utilized by legacy graphic suites before being replaced by the WI extension. For surveillance video, specialized proprietary playback software provided by the specific hardware manufacturer is mandatory. For legacy images, older versions of CorelDRAW or Corel Photo-Paint are required to access the visual data. The primary drawback of the .WVL format is its extreme lack of interoperability. Because the wavelet video compression is proprietary to the DVR hardware, these files cannot be opened by standard media players. This is often frustrating when trying to share critical security footage with law enforcement, insurance agencies, or clients. For video files, converting to standard formats like MP4 (H.264) or AVI is essential for playback on mobile devices and modern computers. If dealing with a legacy Corel image, converting to JPG or PNG ensures web browser compatibility. Because the exact video codec is intentionally locked behind proprietary DVR hardware to prevent tampering, standard cloud converters frequently fail to process the stream. However, you can drag and drop your .WVL file into convert.guru to identify the specific file signature and inspect its internal headers. If our analysis detects an embedded standard video stream or a recognizable image format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WVL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
