To convert other file formats to the "Legacy Mobile Graphic" file type, you need software like CorelDRAW or a similar tool.
About WI files
Most .WI files are Wavelet Compressed Images, a legacy raster graphic format developed by Summus Ltd (and later supported by Corel). These files use advanced wavelet compression algorithms originally designed to deliver high-quality images to early mobile devices and PDAs with limited bandwidth.
The Problem: The format is now effectively obsolete. Because the compression method is proprietary and Summus is defunct, standard operating system viewers (like Windows Photos or Apple Preview) cannot open these files. Users typically encounter them in old data backups or legacy CorelDRAW archives and find themselves locked out of their content.
The Solution: For image files, the goal is to convert them to a universally accessible format like JPG (for web/storage) or PNG (for lossless archiving). CorelDRAW is the primary modern software capable of decoding and exporting these files.
Secondary Meaning: Approximately 9% of .WI files are Windows Installer localization data files. These contain text strings and language resources for software installers (using Microsoft Compound Storage). These are not images and cannot be converted to graphics; they are intended for use with development tools like Visual Studio or WiX.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The WI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WI converter.
