The .WTK file extension is most commonly associated with Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) trace data generated by legacy Wavetek, Acterna, or JDSU (now Viavi Solutions) fiber optic test equipment. These files contain raw measurement data detailing the health of fiber optic cables, including splice loss, reflectance, and distance to faults. The format is proprietary and binary, meaning it cannot be opened by standard text editors or generic image viewers. Users typically encounter friction because the original hardware (like the MTS-5100 or MTS-8000) is aging, and the specific viewing software - such as Viavi FiberTrace or FiberCable - requires a paid license or is difficult to source for modern operating systems.
