About WSI files

The .WSI file extension represents two distinct, mutually exclusive formats that cause significant confusion for users.

1. CyberLink PowerRecover Index (Most Common):
Approximately 35% of these files are XML-based index files generated by CyberLink PowerRecover. This software is often pre-installed on OEM laptops (like Medion, Acer, and HP) to manage factory reset partitions. The .WSI file does not contain the backup data itself; instead, it acts as a catalog pointing to split archive files (often 001, 002, or DSI) stored in the same directory.

2. Wise for Windows Installer Project:
About 20% of files are legacy project files created by Wise for Windows Installer or Wise Package Studio (formerly by Symantec, now discontinued). Developers and SysAdmins use these files to author Windows Installer packages (.MSI).

Convert.Guru analyzes your WSI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TUL, G4B and J2L files.
