About WRAP files

The .wrap extension is primarily used by two entirely different systems: dependency configuration files for the Meson build system, and legacy compressed disk images created by ShrinkWrap for classic Mac OS. In modern development environments, Meson uses these files as text-based wrappers to define upstream source code repositories, download links, and checksums. Alternatively, vintage Apple users may encounter .wrap as a proprietary disk image archive containing older software.

Modern .wrap files are read by the Meson build system and can be opened with simple text editors like Visual Studio Code. However, legacy ShrinkWrap files require the original utility developed by Aladdin Systems or a classic Mac emulator like Basilisk II.

Users often struggle with .wrap files because the extension is heavily overloaded. For Meson wrappers, the plain text format lacks visual structure and cannot be executed directly. For ShrinkWrap images, the format is completely obsolete, proprietary, and highly incompatible with modern platforms like Windows 11 or macOS Sonoma. ShrinkWrap files cannot be mounted natively on modern machines, effectively locking away the archival data.

For maximum compatibility, Meson .wrap files should be converted to standard TXT or INI formats to ensure they open seamlessly on any machine without triggering unrecognized file errors. For legacy disk images, converting to ISO, DMG, or IMG is the best path to preserve the data, though the classic Mac file system (HFS) structure within might be lost or become strictly read-only.

Because this extension is shared by plain text configurations, encoded radio data, and compressed binary disk images, standard online converters fail entirely. They simply cannot guess which architecture to decode. If our analysis detects a supported underlying text or embedded image format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WRAP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XMFG, PDL and SB2 files.

The WRAP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WRAP converter.
