About WQ2 files
The .WQ2 file is a legacy spreadsheet created by Quattro Pro for DOS (specifically versions 5.0 and 5.5), a software originally developed by Borland and now owned by Corel. These files store data in a grid of rows and columns, supporting formulas, charts, and the multi-sheet "notebook" interface that Quattro Pro pioneered.
The Problem: .WQ2 files are relics of the DOS era. Modern versions of Microsoft Excel (2007 and later) have completely removed support for this format to improve security, meaning you cannot open them directly. Attempting to do so will result in an "unrecognized format" error. While the official WordPerfect Office suite can still handle them, purchasing a license just to view an archived budget file is often overkill.
The Solution: For most users, the goal is to modernize the data. Convert .WQ2 to XLSX to regain full editing capabilities in Excel, Google Sheets, or Apple Numbers. If you only need to extract the raw numbers for a database import, convert to CSV. For legal discovery or long-term archiving where the layout must be preserved without the risk of accidental edits, convert to PDF.

The WQ2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WQ2 converter.
