About WP6 files
The .wp6 file is a legacy word processing document created by WordPerfect 6, a software version released in 1993 that bridged the gap between DOS and Windows environments. Unlike modern DOCX files that use an XML-based structure, .wp6 files utilize a unique "streaming code" architecture (famous for its "Reveal Codes" feature).
While this format was the gold standard for the legal and academic industries in the 90s, opening it today is a significant challenge. Modern versions of Microsoft Wordcan technically open these files, but often require the installation of specific legacy filters. Even then, users frequently encounter "formatting explosions" - where margins, page numbers, and tables break because Word attempts to interpret WordPerfect's proprietary codes into its own style-based hierarchy. For reliable access, we recommend converting .wp6 to DOCX for editing or PDF for archiving to preserve the original layout without needing a Corel WordPerfect license.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WP6 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WP6 file to TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, PAGES, TEX, LATEX, MD, MARKDOWN, LOG or NFO, you can use Corel WordPerfect or similar software from the "Legacy Document Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert PDF, DOC, ASC, TODO, NFO, MEMO, README, DOCX, JPG, TXT, NOTE or RTF files to WP6, try Corel WordPerfect or another comparable tool in the "Legacy Document Storage" category.
The WP6 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WP6 converter.
