Extract text from Total Commander plugins (WLX)

The primary .wlx file is a Total Commander Lister Plugin. These files are used exclusively by Total Commander (a popular dual-pane file manager for Windows) to extend its built-in 'Lister' tool, allowing users to preview formats that are not natively supported by the software. Less commonly, .wlx is associated with obsolete Windows Live Mesh Sync Files by Microsoft or MapSource Web Link Files by Garmin.
The most significant disadvantage of a .wlx Lister plugin is that it is not a document or media file at all. Under the hood, a .wlx file is actually a compiled DLL (Dynamic Link Library) or EXE file. This means it contains raw executable machine code designed to interact directly with the Total Commander API. It cannot be opened independently, and it poses a distinct security risk because malicious code can be hidden inside compiled plugins.
Because of its executable nature, you cannot "convert" a .wlx file into a PDF, JPG, or DOCX. There is no actual media or text data to extract. Standard online converters will fail immediately when encountering this file. If you are a developer, the best "target" format is simply renaming the file to DLL to inspect it with a decompiler or resource extraction tool.
