About WLP files

The .WLP extension most frequently represents a Wialon Local Project file, a data export generated by the Wialon GPS tracking platform developed by Gurtam. These files utilize standard JSON formatting to store critical fleet management data, including vehicle unit properties, sensor configurations, and user settings.

Common Use Cases & Friction:

GPS Data Migration: Fleet managers export .WLP files to back up unit profiles or transfer settings between Wialon accounts. A common point of confusion is that users expect a map file (like KML or GPX) but receive a text-based .WLP configuration file instead. You cannot simply drag this into Google Earth to view a track.
Data Analysis: Because the file is raw JSON, it is unreadable in Microsoft Excel or standard image viewers. Users often need to convert it to TXT to inspect the code or parse it into CSV for spreadsheet analysis.
