About WFD files

The .WFD file extension primarily represents a Workflow Definition file. It stores the routing rules, background logic, and sequential steps for automated business processes.

These files are generated by various enterprise platforms, including Xerox FreeFlow Digital Workflow Studio, Cincom CX, Emex Workflow Designer, and Quadient. Other entirely unrelated uses include automotive diagnostic data in Waveform Manager Pro and wavefront data in DHI MIKE software.

The biggest disadvantage of a .WFD file is its extreme fragmentation. More than eight distinct software applications use the exact same extension for completely different data types. Furthermore, these files are strictly proprietary. Opening a Xerox workflow file requires an expensive, specialized enterprise environment, making the file inaccessible to standard users or basic text editors.

If the specific .WFD file relies on a known architecture like XML (common in Quadient XPDL) or ZIP (used by the Workforce App), the best conversion targets are XML, TXT, or ZIP to recover the underlying code and assets.

Because this file format is highly fragmented and proprietary, standard online converters will fail to process it. Usually, only the original software can correctly execute the workflow logic. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like XML or ZIP, viewing or data extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WFD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WFP, ZIP, OWS, SEQU and WF files.

The WFD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WFD converter.
