Convert WDX to another file type
To convert WDX data files to another format, you need Mathematica or other Data software.
Convert a file to WDX
To convert other file formats to the "Scientific Data & Plugin" file type, you need software like Mathematica or a similar tool.
About WDX files
The .WDX file extension is primarily associated with Wavemetrics Data Exchange files, utilized by scientific data analysis software like Igor Pro and Wolfram Mathematica. These files store complex numerical datasets, scientific graphs, and matrix data. Alternatively, a .WDX file functions as a Total Commander Content Plugin, which is essentially a renamed executable library (EXE or DLL) that adds custom data columns to the Total Commander file manager. Less commonly, it represents steel detailing projects in AceCad software or XML document templates in WordPerfect.
The main problem with .WDX data files is their highly specialized, proprietary nature. Without a costly license for Mathematica or Igor Pro, accessing the raw scientific data is virtually impossible. Standard text editors or spreadsheet tools like Excel cannot parse the matrix structures natively. For the plugin variants, they are system-dependent executable binaries that pose security risks if downloaded from untrusted sources and cannot be converted into standard documents.
If you need to share scientific data, the best target formats are standard CSV or TXT, though you will permanently lose the proprietary graphing elements. For 3D steel detailing files, exporting to standard CAD formats like DXF or DWG within the native software is required.
Because these formats are heavily fragmented - ranging from scientific data to compiled plugins - they are notoriously difficult to open or convert online. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format, view its internal structure, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WDX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WDX file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Mathematica or similar software from the "Scientific Data & File Plugins" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to WDX, try Mathematica or another comparable tool in the "Scientific Data & File Plugins" category.
The WDX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WDX converter.
