About WDQ files

The .WDQ file extension is primarily associated with DATAQ Instruments and their WinDaq data acquisition software. These files contain raw, high-speed waveform data recorded from DATAQ hardware (such as the DI-145 or DI-710 series).

Because .WDQ files utilize a proprietary binary format optimized for streaming storage, they cannot be opened directly in Microsoft Excel or text editors like Notepad. Users frequently experience issues when trying to analyze this data outside the WinDaq ecosystem, as the files require specific translation to become human-readable.

For most analysis workflows, the best approach is to convert .WDQ files to CSV (Comma Separated Values) for import into Excel or Google Sheets. Engineers and scientists often convert these files to MAT for use in MATLAB or to TXT for custom parsing scripts. While the free WinDaq Waveform Browser allows for viewing and manual "Save As" conversion, legacy batch conversion often requires command-line utilities like WDQTOCSV.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WDQ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WDH, LWD and LVM files.

The WDQ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WDQ converter.
