About WBF1 files
The .wbf1 file is a split segment of a Wii Backup File System (wbfs) disk image. Created originally by homebrew developer Waninkoko, the WBFS format stores ripped Nintendo Wii game data. Because older external drives rely on the FAT32 file system, they cannot store individual files larger than 4GB. To bypass this restriction, Wii backup tools split the main game file into smaller chunks, resulting in extensions like .wbf1, .wbf2, and so on.
To open or manage these files, users rely on specialized utilities like Wii Backup Manager or Wiimms ISO Tools (wit). Standard operating systems cannot read this proprietary console format natively.
The main disadvantage of a .wbf1 file is that it is fundamentally incomplete. You cannot play, mount, or convert it without the preceding wbfs file. It is essentially an orphaned binary data block. Furthermore, the FAT32 limitation is largely obsolete today, as most modern drives use NTFS or exFAT, eliminating the need to split files at all.
The best conversion targets for these files are standard iso or merged wbfs formats, which are easily read by modern emulators like Dolphin.
Converting a .wbf1 file online is notoriously difficult because standard converters fail to recognize split, proprietary binary chunks.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WBF1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WBF1 file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP, SAV or DAT, you can use Wii Backup Manager or similar software from the "Wii Game Image Split Part" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to WBF1, try Wii Backup Manager or another comparable tool in the "Wii Game Image Split Part" category.
The WBF1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WBF1 converter.
