About W3 files
The .W3 file extension represents a collision of three distinct computing eras, most commonly serving as a legacy Series 3 Database file from Psion PDAs (popular in the 1990s). These files use a proprietary binary format to store contacts, agendas, and system data, making them unreadable by modern text editors or standard database software like Microsoft Access. Users typically encounter these when recovering data from old backups, finding they cannot open them without an emulator or the discontinued PsiWin connectivity suite.
In scientific circles, a .W3 file is a workspace configuration file for SNLO, a nonlinear optics modeling software by AS-Photonics. This specific file (often named SNLO.w3) stores input parameters and memory settings (e.g., "100m") required to launch the simulation engine via command line. It is a plain text or semi-structured data file.
Finally, the extension is occasionally used by e-Sword for specific application data modules.
Important Note: This file is not the IRS Form W-3 (Transmittal of Wage and Tax Statements), which is a paper or PDF document, not a system file extension.
Convert.Guru analyzes your W3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert W3 file to HTML, HTM, CSS, JS, PHP, ASP, ASPX, JSP, JSPX, PY, RB or PL, you can use SNLO or similar software from the "Legacy PDA Database" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RSS, CSS, CGI, SITEMAP, PL, WEBMANIFEST, JSON, JS, XML, HTML, ICO or HTM files to W3, try SNLO or another comparable tool in the "Legacy PDA Database" category.
The W3 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our W3 converter.
