About VSDISCO files

The .vsdisco file is an XML-based DISCO Dynamic Discovery Document created by Microsoft. It was primarily used in older versions of Microsoft Visual Studio and legacy ASP.NET environments to dynamically discover XML web services (SOAP) hosted on an IIS web server. When requested, a .vsdisco file triggers the server to search its directory tree and return paths to all available wsdl and disco service files. Today, this format is highly obsolete. The industry has largely abandoned DISCO in favor of modern RESTful APIs, OpenAPI specifications, and UDDI. The main disadvantage of the .vsdisco format is its lack of modern software support. Standard web browsers do not natively process .vsdisco files; they will typically throw an error or prompt an unwanted raw file download. Furthermore, these files are strictly server-side discovery mechanisms that hold no media, readable document text, or standalone executable data. If you need to read the contents of a .vsdisco file, the best conversion targets are standard XML or TXT. Converting to plain text allows any basic text editor to display the web service endpoints clearly. Because .vsdisco is an obscure, legacy developer file, standard online document converters invariably fail to process it.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VSDISCO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VDP, ACTPROJ and HWPROJ files.

The VSDISCO Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VSDISCO converter.
