About VOK files
The .VOK file format is a proprietary data container originally designed to store vocabulary words, translations, and user learning progress. It was primarily used for flashcard-based language learning and memorization tasks on legacy mobile devices.
The original software to open these files is the now-discontinued PocketVok application, developed by HFR Mobile. Because the format predates modern smartphone ecosystems, finding compatible native software today is exceptionally rare.
Users usually need to convert .VOK files because the original PocketVok app does not run on modern operating systems. The .VOK format is a closed system, meaning your study data is trapped inside a dead ecosystem. You cannot easily share these vocabulary decks with other students or import them directly into modern study applications. This format severely limits your ability to back up or migrate your study progress.
The best conversion targets for a .VOK file are standard text formats like CSV (Comma Separated Values) or plain TXT. Converting to CSV allows you to structure the vocabulary pairs into distinct rows and columns, making it easy to import the raw data into modern spaced-repetition flashcard software like Anki. Keep in mind that while the text pairs are usually retained, specific learning progress metadata is typically lost.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it relies on an undocumented, closed data structure. Standard online converters fail because they do not possess the specific parsing rules for PocketVok files. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file and display the raw text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VOK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The VOK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VOK converter.
