Extract text from Vocabulary and game data files (ILX)
To convert ILX Data files to another format, you need Interlex or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "Vocabulary Database" file type, you need software like Interlex or a similar tool.
The .ILX extension primarily refers to a Vocabulary and dictionary file created by Interlex, a legacy language-learning tool often associated with SIL International. These files store structured lists of words, translations, and testing parameters used by students to memorize foreign languages.
The real problem for users is proprietary lock-in: an .ILX file is a binary database that cannot be opened by standard text editors like Notepad++ or spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel. Users frequently need to convert these files to CSV or TXT to migrate their hard-earned vocabulary lists to modern flashcard apps like Anki or Quizlet.
A significant secondary use (approx. 20%) is in gaming, specifically as a Game User Interface Layout or data file for titles like Lineage II and Infinity Blade. In this context, the file contains coordinate data and UI definitions. These are often encrypted or compressed, requiring specific parsers like L2Parser or an ILX Editor to modify.
Finally, in medical physics, .ILX files function as Dosimetry image log files generated by IBA Dosimetry equipment (e.g., DOSE-X, Lynxeye). These are critical for verifying radiation equipment accuracy but are useless without the proprietary host software.
