About VNM files

The .VNM file extension serves two distinct, high-value industrial purposes that often cause confusion for IT administrators and manufacturing engineers.

Its primary use is as a Nameplate design file for Pepperl+Fuchs VisuNet industrial HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems. In this context, the file acts as a digital "personality" profile for thin clients, storing connection profiles, screen layouts, and device identification settings (the "Nameplate"). These files are critical for deploying configurations across multiple hazardous-area monitors without manual setup.

A secondary but significant use is within the Videojet ecosystem, specifically for DataFlex thermal transfer overprinters. Here, the .VNM file contains printer job data, label layouts, or variable data coding instructions used on packaging lines.

The Problem: Both formats are strictly proprietary. A .VNM file from a VisuNet system is binary or XML-based and locked to the VisuNet Control Center software. You cannot open it in a text editor to read the configuration, nor can you view the visual design in standard image viewers like Windows Photo Viewer or browsers. Similarly, Videojet files require specific driver software (like CLARiSUITE).

The Solution:

Convert.Guru analyzes your VNM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GNH, SAS, S19 and SCALA files.

The VNM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VNM converter.
