About VM1 files
The .VM1 file extension has three distinct and completely incompatible uses. Primarily, it is an audio file used by the Panasonic Voice Message System to store voice recordings on SD cards. It is also used by Parrot SA for voice message data. Secondly, it functions as a PlayStation 1 virtual memory card file, originally created by the defunct Connectix Virtual Game Station and still used by emulators like ePSXe. Rarely, it acts as a proprietary 3D model format.
These files present massive compatibility challenges. The audio variants are proprietary containers that modern web browsers, smartphones, and even robust media players like VLC cannot open natively. Users are often forced to rely on obsolete software, requiring legacy Windows operating systems just to access their voice recordings. Emulation enthusiasts face similar hurdles; while ePSXe can read the virtual memory cards, modern emulators like DuckStation require entirely different formats.
For audio .VM1 files, the ideal conversion targets are standard MP3 or WAV formats to ensure universal playback, though proprietary timestamps may be lost. For PlayStation emulator users, converting a .VM1 to an MCR or GME file is essential to transfer game saves across different software.
Because these are closed, proprietary formats, standard online converters often fail to process them. They simply lack the specific codecs or structural maps required to parse the raw data. However, convert.guru is designed as a pragmatic workaround for exactly this type of file. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying audio stream or memory block, extracting the content may still be achievable.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VM1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert VM1 file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use ePSXe & Panasonic SD Jukebox or similar software from the "Voice Audio & Game Memory" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to VM1, try ePSXe & Panasonic SD Jukebox or another comparable tool in the "Voice Audio & Game Memory" category.
The VM1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VM1 converter.
