About VLT files
The .VLT file format is primarily used as a custom interface skin for the VLC media player. These files package graphic elements (like .PNG or .BMP) and an .XML layout configuration into a single archive. Less commonly, .VLT files act as game data for Ticket to Ride, Video Color Look-Up Tables (LUTs) for Panasonic cameras, or legacy WinVault archives. The main disadvantage of the .VLT format is its highly specialized nature. It is a proprietary container that requires the original software to parse and display correctly. Standard image viewers or text editors cannot open these files directly without unpacking them first, which frustrates users trying to modify an existing skin. Furthermore, Panasonic LUTs use proprietary color space data that many standard video editing platforms cannot read natively. To make the contents usable elsewhere, the best conversion target for a VLC skin is a standard .ZIP or .GZ archive. This allows you to extract the internal graphics and .XML files. For Panasonic LUTs, converting to a widely supported .CUBE format is often necessary for cross-platform video editing. These proprietary file formats are notoriously difficult to convert because standard online tools fail to recognize the specific XML schemas or internal data structures hidden inside the extension. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible on convert.guru. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extracting the contents may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VLT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The VLT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VLT converter.
