About VLT files

A .VLT file typically serves as a VLC Media Player Skin, designed to overhaul the graphical interface of the open-source VLC media player. These files are actually compressed archives (usually GZIP or ZIP) containing an XML configuration file (theme.xml) and various image assets (like PNG or JPG) that define buttons, sliders, and backgrounds.

The main drawback for users is that .VLT files are opaque; you cannot view the design assets or edit the code simply by double-clicking. To customize a skin or view its contents, you often need to manually rename the file extension to ZIP or .TAR.GZ and extract it, which is a clumsy workflow for non-technical users. Converting a .VLT directly to ZIP allows for immediate inspection and editing of the assets.

A secondary, distinct use case is the Panasonic 3D LUT (Look-Up Table). These are binary color grading files used by Panasonic cameras (like the Varicam series). Proprietary camera LUTs are often incompatible with standard post-production software like DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere Pro. Editors frequently need to convert these proprietary .VLT files to industry-standard formats like CUBE or 3DL to ensure consistent color grading across different platforms.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VLT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CUBE, LUT, CBZ, ZIP, M3U, M4S and MP3 files.
