About VIT files
A .vit file is an XML-based Individual Measurement Data file used by open-source parametric pattern drafting software like Valentina and Seamly2D. It contains the variable inputs - like waist, hip, and bust circumferences - needed to dynamically resize a master sewing pattern (typically stored as a val or .sm2d file).
The biggest disadvantage of the .vit format is its rigid dependency on specialized garment CAD software. If a tailor or a client sends you a .vit file and you do not have Valentina or SeamlyMe installed, your operating system will fail to open it. While the underlying code is human-readable XML, digging through markup tags to find specific inch or centimeter values is frustrating and error-prone for non-developers. Furthermore, you cannot import a .vit file into mainstream 3D fashion design tools like Clo3D or Optitex, which rely on their own proprietary sizing formats.
To make this data useful across different platforms, you need to convert it. For archiving or securely sharing dimensions with a client, convert .vit to PDF or TXT to strip away the code and present plain, readable text. For data analysis and generating universal sizing charts, convert it to CSV or JSON to easily import the variables into spreadsheet tools. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing heavy CAD software.

The VIT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VIT converter.
