About VIIVO files

A .viivo file is an encrypted file container generated by Viivo, a legacy security tool developed by PKWARE. Its primary use case was securing documents before syncing them to public cloud platforms like Dropbox or Google Drive. To open this file, users historically required the Viivo client and the associated decryption keys. Users frequently seek to convert .viivo files because the format is proprietary, totally unreadable by standard operating systems, and relies on discontinued software. The major disadvantage of this format is vendor lock-in; if you lose the encryption key or the client software, the data is permanently inaccessible. Standard online converters fail to process .viivo files because the underlying data is scrambled into AES-256 ciphertext, requiring cryptographic authentication rather than a simple format translation.
