About VIFF files
The .VIFF (Visualization Image File Format) is a specialized raster image format originally created for the Khoros software environment. It is primarily used to store 2D and 3D scientific visualization data and multi-dimensional image arrays. Software like Blender and older image processing suites utilizing AccuSoft Pegasus libraries can open or import these files.
The main disadvantage of the .VIFF format is its lack of support in modern software ecosystems. You cannot open a .VIFF file in a web browser, and standard image viewers on Windows and macOS do not recognize it. Relying on legacy Khoros environments often requires outdated hardware or virtual machines. Furthermore, the files can be unnecessarily large if they contain obsolete multi-dimensional data structures.
Users typically need to convert .VIFF to PNG or JPG for standard sharing, or TIFF to retain uncompressed scientific data. Converting to standard formats ensures you can view the images anywhere, but you may lose multi-dimensional layers or precise floating-point color depth if the original file contained complex 3D visualization data.
Because .VIFF is a highly specialized and legacy format, standard online converters often fail to process it. Drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format, inspect the file, and view its internal structure. If our analysis detects standard image data arrays, viewing or conversion to common formats may still be possible.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your VIFF file.
If you want to convert VIFF file to CUR, you can use Blender or similar software from the "Scientific Image Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW or AI files to VIFF, try Blender or another comparable tool in the "Scientific Image Data Storage" category.
The VIFF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VIFF converter.
