About CPC files

The .CPC extension primarily refers to the Cartesian Perceptual Compression format, a highly specialized raster image type developed by Cartesian Products, Inc. designed for the ultra-efficient storage of black-and-white architectural plans, engineering drawings, and scanned legal documents. While this format excels at reducing file size - often 5-10x smaller than standard TIFF compressions - it creates significant accessibility barriers. Because the compression algorithm is proprietary, standard image viewers, web browsers, and even powerful tools like Adobe Photoshop cannot open these files natively. This "proprietary lock-in" forces users to rely on obsolete viewers like CPC View or paid browser plugins, making the files useless for client sharing or modern web publishing.

To make these documents accessible, the industry standard is to convert them to PDF (Portable Document Format) for easy sharing and printing. For long-term archiving where pixel-perfect fidelity is required, converting to TIFF is recommended. If the file is related to gaming (specifically Ice-Pick Lodge's The Void), it is likely a game asset container; in this case, converting/extracting to PNG or JPG allows for the viewing of textures and game art.
