About VFT files
The .vft extension represents two distinct, niche file formats that often confuse users due to their proprietary nature.
1. Verifone VideoFont (Primary Use)
Most commonly (approx. 51%), a .vft file is a VideoFont file used by Verifone Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals (such as the EFPOS-2000 or VX series). These files store custom glyphs, logos, or UI elements optimized for the low-resolution monochrome or color displays of credit card machines.
The Problem: These are not standard TrueType (TTF) or OpenType (OTF) fonts. They are proprietary binary bitmaps or vector instructions designed specifically for Verifone firmware. You cannot double-click to install them on Windows or macOS, and standard design tools like Adobe Illustrator cannot open them. Users often encounter these when analyzing firmware dumps or developing POS applications.
The Solution: To view or archive these assets, the most practical workflow is converting the internal glyphs to standard image formats like PNG (for pixel-perfect previews) or SVG (if vector data is present).
2. Corel VideoStudio Filter (Secondary Use)
Alternatively, a .vft file may be a filter plugin or effect preset for Corel VideoStudio (formerly Ulead VideoStudio). These files contain parameter settings for video effects (e.g., "Old Film," "Blur").
The Problem: These are strictly settings files, not media files. Users often mistakenly try to "convert" them to MP4 or JPG, which is impossible. They only function when placed in the specific vfx_plug directory of the VideoStudio installation.
Recommendation:
For POS Developers: Convert Verifone .vft files to BMP or PNG to verify logo integrity without loading them onto physical hardware.
For Video Editors: Move the file to your Corel plugin folder to activate the effect; do not attempt to "play" it.

The VFT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VFT converter.
