Convert VEX to another file type

To convert VEX projects to another format, you need iBwave Design or other Data software.

Convert a file to VEX

To convert other file formats to the "Specialized Engineering Database" file type, you need software like iBwave Design or a similar tool.

About VEX files

The .VEX file primarily functions as a Wireless Component Database file used by iBwave Design, a software for designing indoor wireless networks. It contains technical specifications and RF (Radio Frequency) characteristics for antennas, cables, and other telecom hardware. Alternatively, it is used as a Robotics Project Source Code file by VEXcode, including VEXcode IQ and VEXcode VR, to store student programming logic. A third use case is watercourse system data for the MIKE 11 modeling software by DHI. The major disadvantage of .VEX files is their highly proprietary nature. iBwave databases are tightly locked into the iBwave ecosystem, requiring costly software licenses to open or edit. VEXcode files are specialized IDE files that cannot be run outside of a VEX robot or the VEXcode VR environment. If you need to share the data with non-users, standard online converters will fail because they lack the specific parsing logic for these niche engineering and robotics formats. To share iBwave data, it is best to export the network design directly from the software to standard PDF reports or CSV spreadsheets. For VEXcode, exporting the code as TXT, CPP, or PY (Python) is recommended to preserve readability. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because it often relies on proprietary closed database structures or specialized formatting. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VEX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted V5BLOCKS, TXT, VDT, OMD and DND files.

FAQ

If you want to convert VEX file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use iBwave Design or similar software from the "Wireless Component Database" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to VEX, try iBwave Design or another comparable tool in the "Wireless Component Database" category.

The VEX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VEX converter.
