About OMD files

The .OMD file is primarily a Garment pattern design file used by Lectra Modaris CAD software. Fashion designers use these files to store 2D and 3D digital patterns, grading rules, and fabric constraints for apparel manufacturing. Secondary uses include 3D game models developed by Webfoot Technologies and OpenModeller, as well as Object Module Definition files. Because .OMD is a closed, proprietary format, it causes major friction in supply chains. Files often require an expensive CAD software license to open and are not supported by web browsers. If you share an .OMD file with a manufacturer using Optitex or CLO 3D, they will likely be unable to open it. To solve this, users usually need to convert the .OMD file to standard industry formats like DXF (specifically DXF-AAMA or ASTM for apparel) or PDF for simple 2D printing. For the 3D model variants, targets include OBJ or STL. However, converting out of the Lectra ecosystem often causes the loss of parametric grading data and seam allowances. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because the encoding is undocumented and proprietary. Standard online converters fail to process it. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OMD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SOS, EDT and MCM files.

The OMD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OMD converter.
