About VET files

The .VET file extension primarily identifies documents generated by IDEXX Animana, a cloud-based veterinary practice management system. While these files store critical clinical notes, client correspondence, and treatment history, they are technically standard Rich Text Format (RTF) files masquerading under a proprietary extension. This creates a common friction point: standard word processors like Microsoft Word do not automatically recognize the extension, leading to confusing "unknown file" errors.

A significant secondary use (approx. 17%) involves the fashion industry, where .VET files serve as garment pattern data for Lectra Modaris. Unlike the text-based veterinary files, these are complex CAD data files used for cutting room markers. They are highly proprietary, requiring expensive licensing to view or edit, effectively locking the data away from standard CAD tools.
