This severe format overlap creates significant confusion. The CAD variant is a highly proprietary binary format that lacks modern software support, meaning it cannot be opened natively in standard web browsers or mainstream 3D modeling suites. The NEM12 variant is fundamentally a text-based data dump formatted similar to a CSV; however, it is dense, unformatted, and challenging for non-technical users to interpret manually. The Conner backup catalog is obsolete, acting only as a file index rather than containing the actual archived data.
Because of these overlapping uses, standard online converters routinely fail to process .v01 files. A converter expecting a CAD drawing will immediately crash when fed plain-text meter data.
