About UTXT files

A .utxt file is typically an Adobe text resource file encoded in UTF-16 (LE), widely used by Adobe Illustrator and other Adobe applications to store localized text, interface strings, or plain Unicode data. It may also simply be a generic Unicode Text File storing text data with special characters from different alphabets.

You can open these files using standard text editors that support Unicode, such as Notepad++ or Microsoft Visual Studio Code, but they are primarily intended to be processed by Adobe software during rendering or application startup. See the Adobe Wikipedia page for more background on their application ecosystem.

The main disadvantage of the .utxt format is everyday compatibility. While it is just a text file under the hood, the .utxt extension confuses most standard word processors, mobile devices, and web browsers. Double-clicking it usually results in an 'unrecognized file format' error. Additionally, if your operating system does not explicitly handle UTF-16 Little Endian encoding correctly, the text might appear as mojibake (garbled characters) or show unexpected spaces between letters.

Converting .utxt to TXT, PDF, or DOCX is highly recommended for sharing or viewing text data safely across platforms. When converting to standard TXT (saved as UTF-8), you maintain compatibility across all modern devices, though specific Adobe-related code variables might become visible to the reader.

Because .utxt is often tied to proprietary Adobe resource structures or lacks a standard Byte Order Mark (BOM), simple online converters often fail to process it, outputting corrupt text. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UTXT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZDB, NDB and WAF files.
