About UTW files

The .UTW file is a proprietary data format used by Unity Whirld, software developed by Aubrey Falconer. These files typically store virtual environment data, 3D assets, or configuration settings specific to the Unity Whirld engine.

The main disadvantage of the .UTW format is that it is entirely closed and undocumented. It is extremely proprietary. It is not supported by web browsers, standard 3D modeling tools, or mainstream game engines. Opening or editing it usually requires the specific, often legacy, software it was originally created in.

Standard online converters fail to process .UTW files because there is no public API or specification for its binary structure. Users usually want to extract embedded assets into standard formats like OBJ, FBX, or PNG, but direct conversion is rarely supported natively.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our platform inspects the raw hexadecimal data; if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UTW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NWN, TIS and BAH files.

The UTW Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UTW converter.
