The .tis file extension is a notorious source of confusion because it serves two very different, specialized industries: industrial electrical engineering and IT system administration. Primarily, these files are Electrical Panel Designs created by BTicino Tisystem software. In this context, the file contains complex schematics and wiring diagrams used for certification and installation. The friction here is obvious: these are proprietary files that require specific, often legacy, software versions to open. You cannot view them in a browser, and sending them to a client who lacks Tisystem is futile.

Alternatively, in the IT sector, a .tis file often represents an Acronis True Image Script. These are XML-formatted instruction sets used to automate backup jobs. While less graphical, they are equally proprietary in their specific tag structure. Users also frequently encounter .tis files as configuration data for games like Slay the Spire (specifically the SpireTogether mod), where they function as renamed JSON files.
