About URR files

The .URR file is a proprietary Uniface Signatures File historically associated with Compuware and currently managed by Rocket Software. These files contain compiled component signatures, definitions, and metadata used by the Uniface low-code development platform to run and deploy enterprise applications. Uniface uses these files internally to map data structures and application logic.

Working with .URR files outside of the official Rocket Uniface environment is highly frustrating. The format is closed, proprietary, and lacks public documentation. Standard text editors cannot parse the internal binary data, meaning you will only see garbled characters and unrecognizable code if you attempt to open one. Users without an expensive enterprise Uniface license are effectively locked out of the file's contents.

Standard online converters fail to process .URR files because they lack the specific runtime libraries required to interpret Uniface signatures. The best target formats for extracting data from a .URR file are TXT, XML, or CSV, but true conversion generally requires the original IDE to properly export the schema. While we cannot magically reconstruct the Uniface IDE, our analysis tool can inspect the binary file, extract plain text strings, and expose embedded metadata. If our system detects an underlying or embedded format, viewing or extracting the critical data may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your URR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The URR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our URR converter.
