Convert UPC to another file type
To convert UPC packages to another format, you need APB: Reloaded or other Game software.
Convert a file to UPC
To convert other file formats to the "Game Data Archive" file type, you need software like APB: Reloaded or a similar tool.
About UPC files
A .upc file is a proprietary game asset container used primarily by the multiplayer online game APB: Reloaded (originally known as All Points Bulletin). It functions as a Universal Package Container to bundle and compress 3D models, textures, audio tracks, and level geometry into a single deployed archive.
These files are specifically engineered to be read directly by the game engine during runtime. Modders and data miners occasionally use community-developed tools or specific QuickBMS scripts designed to parse and unpack these custom archives.
The primary disadvantage of the .upc format is its highly specialized, closed ecosystem. Files are typically encrypted or rely heavily on zlib compression combined with a proprietary file table. You cannot open a .upc file natively in standard 3D modeling or graphic design software. Users often need to convert them to extract the underlying assets for fan projects or modding. However, standard online file converters completely fail to process them because they lack the specific decryption keys or directory parsing logic required to unbundle the internal filesystem.
The best approach for handling these archives is extraction rather than direct file-to-file conversion. Target formats depend entirely on the extracted internal assets: embedded textures typically extract to DDS or PNG, 3D models to OBJ, and audio streams to OGG or MP3.
This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert due to its closed, proprietary architecture. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal hex content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your UPC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert UPC file to NDC, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use APB: Reloaded or similar software from the "Game Asset Archive Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to UPC, try APB: Reloaded or another comparable tool in the "Game Asset Archive Storage" category.
The UPC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UPC converter.
