About UPC files
The .UPC extension most commonly refers to the Universal Package Container format used by the massively multiplayer online game APB: Reloaded (All Points Bulletin). These files act as compressed archives (internally using zlib compression) that bundle essential game assets like character textures, audio files, and 3D weapon meshes into a single efficient package. Because they are proprietary game archives, .UPC files cannot be opened by standard image viewers or media players, which frustrates modders and gamers trying to access the raw data inside. Users typically need to "convert" these files by extracting their contents into usable formats like PNG, TGA (for textures), or WAV (for audio) using specialized unpacking tools or game extractors.
A secondary, less common use for this extension is for Ultimate Paint Components. These are plugin or effect files used by the legacy graphics editor Ultimate Paint. Unlike the game archives, these are small functional modules rather than content containers. If you are not a gamer or modder, you might also encounter text files named with a .upc extension containing lists of Universal Product Codes (barcodes), though this is a naming convention rather than a distinct file format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your UPC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert UPC file to NDC, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use APB: Reloaded or similar software from the "Game Content Package" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to UPC, try APB: Reloaded or another comparable tool in the "Game Content Package" category.
The UPC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UPC converter.
