About UAE files

A .UAE file is a configuration file used by the UAE (Ubiquitous Amiga Emulator) and its popular forks, such as WinUAE and FS-UAE. It stores the exact hardware specifications of a virtual Commodore Amiga computer. This includes the emulated Motorola 680x0 CPU type, RAM allocation (Chip RAM and Fast RAM), custom chipset emulation (OCS, ECS, AGA), and file paths for essential Kickstart ROM files and floppy disk ADF images.

The main disadvantage of the .UAE format is its rigid reliance on local file paths. If you migrate your emulator setup to a new PC or share the .UAE file with another user, the emulator will usually fail to boot. This happens because the absolute paths pointing to your hard drives, ROM files, and HDF files will no longer match the new file system. Furthermore, it is a proprietary, engine-specific format that standard web browsers and system tools cannot parse.

Because this is primarily a plain-text configuration file, you cannot convert it into a playable game, an executable, or media. The best conversion targets are generic text formats like TXT, INI, or XML to allow for easy reading, batch editing, and documentation of your virtual machine setups.

This file format is difficult to open or convert into other emulation platforms because the specific syntax and parameter names are proprietary to the UAE engine. Often, only the original software can properly read, interpret, or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UAE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted USS, NPR and EGP files.
