About TU files

The .TU extension primarily identifies a Game Save File generated by The Universim, a god-simulation strategy game developed by Crytivo. These files store critical progress data, including planetary stats, Nugget population details, and building locations. While the file appears proprietary, it is internally structured as a standard ZIP archive containing XML or JSON data. Users often need to convert or access these files to manually edit game resources (modding), recover corrupt saves, or transfer progress between devices. A practical problem is that standard archivers like WinRAR or 7-Zip do not automatically recognize the .TU extension, requiring users to manually rename the file or force-open it.

Alternatively, a .TU file may be a Turing Source File, a legacy script written in the Turing programming language developed by Holt Software. These files are plain text but are often inaccessible on modern systems due to the obsolescence of the original Holt Software Turing environment. Users convert these to TXT or PAS (Pascal) to view code logic or migrate legacy educational projects to modern languages. Less commonly, this extension is associated with TerraTech saves on specific platforms managed by Tilting Point.
